Today, we here at Frayba join with the National March, expressing our indignation and condemnation of the violence that is experienced day after day in our communities all across Mexico. This violence is due to the implementation of the failed policies of the “war on organized crime,” a war declared by President Felipe Calderón Hinojosa, endorsed by the legislative branch, and legalized by the judicial branch.

This Human Rights Center has information that allow to conclude that instances of the Government of the State of Chiapas (Mexico) makes use of direct and indirect methods to restrict freedom of speech and information, as well as harassment of the journalist Antony Flores Merida (Antony in the following), reporter and creator of the http://www.infochiapas.com Website, which he manages and shares in social networks through Twitter and Facebook, in which information has been published which, due to its professionalism, is shared by independent journalists in Chiapas.

This Human Rights Center has received information from adherents to the Other Campaign from the ejido of Jotolá, municipality of Chilón, about the imminent risk of aggression by members of the Organization for the Defense of Indigenous and Peasant Rights (OPDDIC from its Spanish acronym), and possibility of irreparable injury to their lives and physical integrity.

Confirmation that the Mexican Federal Government has participated in illegal activities evidenced through declassified documents revealing the creation of paramilitary groups in Chiapas.
