This Human Rights Center expresses its outrage at the inadequate performance of the Mexican state in providing medical care to the political prisoner Alberto Patishtán Gomez (hereinafter Patishtán), who for several years has been reporting his poor state of health, and the lack of interest of the Mexican State in treating him, which has resulted in Patishtán gradually losing his eyesight.

The Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas Human Rights Center (Frayba) announces the release of David Potenciano Torres (henceforth David), arbitrarily deprived of his liberty and subjected to torture by authorities of the Specialized Attorney Against Organized Crime on May 25th 2011 so that he would confess to the murder of rancher Pedro Fonz Ramos.

Today, August 30th 2011, we announce the release of our 2010 Report, “The Earth's pulse beats along the paths of resistance,” in which we address the current situation of human rights, processes of comprehensive rights defense, and the exercise of rights during the period of April 2010 to March 2011.

This Human Rights Center considers unacceptable the violence exercised by the group known as “non-cooperatives,” lead by the “Army of God, Eagles' Wings” against adherents to The Other Campaign in the community of Mitzitón, San Cristóbal de Las Casas (SCLC), Chiapas; this violence was carried out in the presence of state officials and left two people with serious injuries.
