According to information documented by this Human Rights Centre, there exists an imminent risk in San Marcos Avilés ejido, municipality of Chilón, that for the second time a forced displacement of the support bases of the Zapatista Army of National Liberation (BAEZLN) may be carried out by inhabitants of the same ejido who are affiliated to the Institutional Revolutionary Party (PRI), the Party of the Democratic Revolution (PRD), and the Green Party of Mexico (PVEM).

This Human Rights Center expresses its outrage at the inadequate performance of the Mexican state in providing medical care to the political prisoner Alberto Patishtán Gomez (hereinafter Patishtán), who for several years has been reporting his poor state of health, and the lack of interest of the Mexican State in treating him, which has resulted in Patishtán gradually losing his eyesight.

On 27 March 2012, human rights defender Mr Nataniel Hernández Núñez received threatening and intimidating sms text messages purportedly from civil servants of the Chiapas State Government. Nataniel Hernández Núñez is the director of the Centro de Derechos Humanos Digna Ochoa (Digna Ochoa Human Rights Centre), a non-profit civil association based in the Istmo region of Chiapas which works to promote civil, political, economic, social and cultural rights, as well as providing legal advice.

The John D. and Catherine T. MacArthur Foundation announced today that the National Network of Civil Human Rights Organizations, All Rights for All (Red Todos los Derechos para Todos y Todas –Red TDT), has received the MacArthur Award for Creative and Effective Institutions. Through this award, the MacArthur Foundation honors and supports the efforts of the Red TDT to address the complex situation of human rights defenders in Mexico.

The Fray Bartolomé de Las Casas Human Rights Center (Frayba) announces the release of David Potenciano Torres (henceforth David), arbitrarily deprived of his liberty and subjected to torture by authorities of the Specialized Attorney Against Organized Crime on May 25th 2011 so that he would confess to the murder of rancher Pedro Fonz Ramos.

According to information received by members of the Centre for Human Rights, through the Council of Good Government (JBG) "New seed that will produce" based in the community of Roberto Barrios, official municipality of Palenque, there is an imminent threat of various acts of harassment, threats and possible forced displacement of the inhabitants of the autonomous community of San Patricio, autonomous municipality La Dignidad, official municipality Sabanilla in the Northern Zone of Chiapas.
